“Hey, where did you get your hand soap?”
Customers of Earth Market, Newmarket’s first zero-waste refillery, are no stranger to odd questions like this as guests exit their bathroom, basking in the aroma of green tea or almond blossom hand wash.
Many of the carefully curated selection of personal and home care products offered at Earth Market smell divine and are downright addictive. So much so that the company has customers who make special trips to refill a half year’s supply of clean beauty, personal hygiene, and home products!
The refill program makes adults feel like kids in a candy shop, explains owner Jaime Upiter. “Customers can bring in their own containers (laundry bottle, shampoo bottle, jar, reusable bag, Tupperware container, etc.) to fill up on an assortment of products from home cleaning to body care to food.”
Gorgeous, ethically sourced, cruelty-free products with none of the nasties? It’s not that surprising when you realize that nearly all of them are sourced from local or Canadian brands committed to being zero waste and plastic free. What could be more convenient (and cost-effective) than having all your favourite Canadian brands in one place?
