If ever there was a sign of spring it’s the start of the Newmarket Farmers’ Market!
If you love a weekend tradition, how about one that gives you access to farm fresh foods, unique artisan products, great music and oodles of ambience? That’s what you’ll find at the Newmarket Farmers’ Market which runs Saturday mornings from May through October at Riverwalk Commons.
Starting as a small market in 1999, this outdoor market has seen exponential growth in recent years, going from just 20 vendors back in the day to close to 50 in 2023, making this year’s market the biggest yet.
There are many loyal visitors who shop for their groceries on a weekly basis, says Cathy Bartolic, President of the Newmarket Farmers’ Market. She adds the market plays host to more than 1,000 visitors every market day. “The market is a great way to start your weekend with fresh produce, original products, and tasty treats,” she says. “It’s where families and friends go to meet up and catch up.”
One of the benefits of the market lies in the opportunity to connect directly with local farmers and other vendors. Along with returning favourites like Forsythe Farms, Crepes Etc. and Perennial Petals, there are a lot of new companies at the market this year. Adding to their repertoire this year, the market will also be hosting monthly special events, including Doggie Days on June 3rd, a Mini Music Festival on July 15th and a Corn Roast on August 19th.
